How long do JW study the bible with someone? Until baptism?
by Lynnie ini have a 35 year old cousin who got baptized last year after rejecting the jw since she was 13. not sure what happened to change her mind, i suspect it's all about family since her dad is an elder and her two sisters are very much in.
her oldest sister is married to a middle management guy in bethel.
so she studied for about 2 years until she decided to get baptised.

Lynnie, In my day 6 months was the minimum time needed. Also, I continued a Bible study past my baptism though it wasn't a common thing. There was something about the one on one rapport that appealed to me. -

Israeli town council cancels Jehovah’s Witnesses event
by Watchtower-Free inhttp://www.haaretz.com/news/national/.premium-1.652440.
anti-missionary group yad l'achim had claimed christians were planning a 'mass baptism' and launched protest campaign in ra'anana.. the raanana municipality has canceled an event organized by the jehovahs witnesses in israel, concerned that the religious groups meeting would hurt the feelings of the public.
the event, which should have been held saturday in the raanana municipal sports center, was canceled following pressure by the anti-missionary group yad lachim.

Label, would you then prevent Mormons from doing the same thing? Who will draw the limits as to which group is to be censored and which not? -

How to Choose a Wife!
by snugglebunny inback in the day, when my family moved to a new congregation, i fell head over heels with a young sister who was an elder's daughter.
it wasn't long before we were talking about marriage and i was contemplating buying her an engagement ring.
my parents were not happy at all.

Don't men in the congregation have the pick of the litter? I've heard that men outnumber women 2 to 1 making it difficult for a woman to get a husband. -

Interesting "20th Century" quote on 2014 WT CD
by nicolaou inremember this quote;.
"the apostle paul was spearheading the christian missionary activity.
he was also laying a foundation for a work that would be completed in our 20th century.

Good catch.
This reminds me of an old Soviet encyclopedia which had a picture of a group of astronauts posing for the cameras. One of the astronauts fell out of favor for political reasons and his image was removed from the picture. However, the encyclopedia's editors didn't realize that the same identical picture - uncensored - was in a separate section of the book.

Mummy Dear Lies at Assemblies
by Tempest in a Teacup inmy zealously fanatic jw mum is aware of my current "tourist-jw" life.
what she doesn't know for sure is that she's part of the ones who brought me to this.. my mum was a quite moderate jw, she even got publically reproved once.
in our house, there was no daily text, no family study, no eating together, no preaching together, no watchtower study...even though she regularly checked my wt to see if i studied it.. being a single mother, she had a quite busy work schedule, so from the moment she woke up to the moment she went to bed, you'd better not waste a single minute of her time needlessly.

Makes you wonder how many of those testimonials given by the JWs at the meetings are fake. -

At the Kingdom Hall
by paradisebeauty ini was thinking of starting a topic on thoughts that go through your mind while attending meetings.... right now i am at the meeting and thinking ... we study about jesus's courage to stand by rightness and truth, about him getting in conflict with religious leaders who thought of themselves as experts of the law, jesus understood truth and god differently of them and he had the courage to speak out!.
so we study this, but after that we draw the concluzion that courage is to go preaching and identify yourself as a witness .... well, this in not what i understand from jesus's courage!.

The Searcher,
"If it was virtually any other church in Christendom, I could challenge/question what was said..."
I think you overestimate the tolerance of quite a few other sects. Only amongst liberal Christians is there any tolerance but amongst most Fundamentalists there is none.
